Hadithi za KNOB Digital: “I believe in making things happen, It’s Possible!” Victoria Mutune
“I have an interest in digital marketing as well as content creation, but it’s not something I have explored in depth. But technical communication, specifically, is something I think I am getting a lot of interest in.”
Victoria Mutune, an entrepreneur and a Technical Communication enthusiast, aspired to explore careers such as architecture and law, growing up. However, she transitioned to hospitality and tourism management for her bachelor’s degree. Her passion for the arts also led her to explore the digital marketing world. While pursuing a Master’s In Hospitality and Tourism Management at Pwani University, she also took part in a pilot program for a Masters of Communication and Media. Her goal is to develop as a competent technical digital marketer, who can structure, organize, and visualize complex information for specific target groups. “I believe in making things happen”, she says. “If you see a gap, fill it, even with limited resources, it’s possible,” she adds.
While pursuing her undergraduate, Victoria became passionate about business. She explored businesses such as selling jewelry, baking, and designing cards. She would then extend her journey as an entrepreneur, after campus.
“While on campus, I would design cards and sell them. I remember there was a graduation ceremony where I designed handmade cards and sold them… I would sell jewelry; such as earrings and necklaces around student hostels. And then, I think, in my second or third year, I started baking. Actually, in my second year, I started baking, so I’d bake birthday cakes,” she says.
After completing her undergraduate degree, she completed a Passport to Success course at Hilton Nairobi. Passport to Success® is IYF’s life skills program, implemented in 28 countries and translated into 18 languages, affecting 63,500 youth. It covers four core competencies: Professional Development, Problem Solving, Healthy Lifestyles, and Workplace Success. Participants become self-motivated, reliable, productive, and confident decision-makers, preparing them for Hilton Team Members.
She is a member of the Rotary Club, whose common goal is to promote international understanding and goodwill by assisting local communities. The club’s areas of focus include; peacebuilding and conflict resolution, disease prevention and treatment, water, sanitation and hygiene, maternal and child health, basic education and literacy, and community economic development. This requires them to work with integrity and positive impact, adhering to the motto of Service Above Self. Now turning three years as a Rotarian, she loves the involvement in community programs, and she is inspired to help grow others and support other youths through positive initiatives.
As more businesses move online and innovative new technologies keep developing, the growth in digital marketing continues to surge. The way we communicate and interact with brands is now predominantly done online, which means businesses that don’t utilize digital marketing tools will inevitably get left behind. That is why Victoria speaks of her great interest in Learning more about communication

Being your boss offers unlimited possibilities, allowing you to design your work and schedule. However, it can be tempting to slack off or do something with less effort, especially when working from home. The biggest challenge is having the dedication and motivation to make the right choices when the going gets tough or uncomfortable. Managing distractions and balancing work and personal life can be challenging. “As a business person, high expectations and intervening factors can lead to frustration and hinder progress.” To curb all this you just need to understand that: Life is not linear, and failure is inevitable. It’s okay to take steps back, try new things, or cut back on luxuries as long as it doesn’t follow a linear progression.
